Warren Edward Buffett is an American businessman, investor, and philanthropist. Worlds second richest person was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer in 2012. Buffett had said that his early-stage cancer isn’t slowing him down any. He had told shareholders “I feel great — as if I was in my normal excellent health — and my energy level is 100 percent”.
Buffett had high reading on a PSA test and a biopsy found cancerous tissue. Subsequent CT, MRI and bone scans had not showed cancer spread. He was treated with radiation treatment.
The prostate cancer is typically slow growing and prognosis for early-stage prostate cancer is generally good and diseased person will die with the disease not because of it. Over a lifetime, 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with the disease. Average age at the time of diagnosis is 66 years. The mortality rate is 1 in 39.
