Glyphosate (GLY, N-phosphonomethylglycine) is widely used broad-spectrum phosphate herbicide worldwide. It is active ingredient in the agro giant Monsanto’s weed killer, Roundup. Herbicide is a substance which is toxic to plants and is used to destroy unwanted plants.
The First ever Study to measure the association between prenatal Glyphosate exposure in pregnancy with adverse fetal developmental risk, Researchers showed Glyphosate is found at quantifiable levels in over 90% of pregnancies. Urine sample of 71 pregnant ladies between ages of 18 and 40 years with singleton live birth were measured.
The study found higher Glyphosate levels in Women with higher caffeine intake or women from rural areas. Higher GLY levels were associated with shorter gestational lengths. In previous studies, Lifetime cognitive achievements have shown reduction with shortened gestations of one week at term.
