Study titled, “your job is messing with mine! The impact of mobile devices use for work during family time on the spouse’s work life” concluded that use of mobile devices for work instead of spending quality time with family increase the work-to-family conflict. It causes reduced job satisfaction and performance due to cross over mechanism. Study is published in Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and includes 344 married couples who were full time worker. All participants were using mobile devices or tablets at home for work purposes.
Results of the study are especially important in present competitive world. Workload often force people to work beyond working hours or at home instead of spending quality time with family. It can set a vicious cycle between workload, family conflict and productivity loss. Businessmen or Employers needs to find out innovative ways to use working hours more efficiently. This will ensure that quality time with family will not be compromise and indirectly will help to improve the productivity of workers.
